NVO Components Engineering and Testing
NVO Components uses sophisticated engineering software to design products. All or our designs are engineered and optimized for material, cost, weight and other specific criteria. NVO Components products are then thoroughly tested both under laboratory conditions and by riders for feedback and to provide safety margins within the strictest standards. All NVO Components stems pass DIN Plus testing standards. You can ride and race in full confidence.

NVO Components stems featuring ATS technology have a distinct advantage over the existing threadless headset system. The problem with the current threadless system is that the ability to adjust your stem height is limited and requires a degree of mechanical skill. The ATS system corrects this deficiency and adds more benefits.

The current threadless system uses stack washers to compress the stem and preload the headset. If someone wants to adjust their stem height, they first have to loosen the headset bolt, remove the top cap, finally, loosen and remove the stem. Next, the appropriate amount of washers for the height adjustment needs to be removed from below the stem, then reinstall the stem, put the removed stack washers on top of the stem, install the top cap, preload the headset with the headset bolt, then tighten the stem. All in all, a very time consuming process. This needs to be performed every time a stem height adjustment is desired. Many bicycle riders don't even try to adjust their stem height because they don't know you can adjust the height, or they feel uncomfortable with taking their headset and steering components apart, or they just don't want to deal with the hassle.

The ATS technology replaces the stack washer setup with a single slotted shim. The ATS shim slides over the steer tube to preload the headset. The ATS top cap then preloads the ATS shim, this, in turn compresses the headset. ATS is a very simple assembly. The headset is now preloaded by the ATS shim and the NVO Components stem can be mounted anywhere along the ATS shim. Your stem height is changed as easily as your saddle height! You can change your stem height quickly and often, without ever loosening the headset. If you determine that you want to cut your ATS shim to a shorter length, please see the cutting instructions for the proper procedure.

Benefits of the ATS Technology are:
  1. Ease of Height Adjustment: The ATS shim allows for quick and easy height adjustment. Cyclists can adjust the stem quickly to suit terrain, position on the bicycle, or riding conditions for more performance, control and comfort.
  2. Steer tube strengthing: There is a strengthening rib on the front that extends the length of the ATS shim and serves a couple of purposes. First, it indexes the rear slot of the shim with the slot of the stem and keeps the stem from twisting when adjusting the stem height. Second, it adds resistance against steer tube bending by having larger geometry in the major bending orientation of the steer tube.
  3. Carbon steerer protection: The ATS shim provides additional protection for a carbon steer tube. It disburses the clamping force of the stem over a wider area which helps to prevent the carbon steer tube from cracking due to over tightening and point loads.
  4. Ease of Transport: When traveling with your the bike, you can remove the stem to pack your bike in a vehicle or travel bag without the headset loosening. No more missing headset parts, loose fork, or readjusting headset. When you get to your destination, simply re-install the stem.
  5. Resistance to the headset loosening: Since the stack washers are individual and loose fitting when the headset has proper adjustment, the steer tube can bend and loosen the headset. The ATS shim is a single piece and will not move around as the steer tube bends, this keeps the headset in adjustment. The ATS shim also eliminates the clicking and creaking noises common with threadless headsets.
